Who We Are

In the shadows of the Tenorio volcano in one of earth’s most biodiverse valleys lies the ancestral home of the Maleku native tribe. For thousands of years, the Maleku lived off the land here with one crop holding a sacred status above all the others: cacao. 

At Maleku Chocolate, we craft our organic Costa Rican chocolate from tree to bar, using only sustainable organic farming practices, fair trading and ecosystem rewilding techniques. Our goal is to honor the ancient cacao tradition of the Maleku people, in unity with nature and our local farming communities.
